The UP College of Fine Arts Candlelight Ceremony was held on Saturday, April 25,2009 at the Amorsolo Hall. One hundred fifty six students were honored and recognized for completing the requirements of their certificate and bachelor degree programs.

Our Candlelight Ceremony this year was special and memorable on many counts. First of all, we were honored with the presence of UP Diliman Chancellor Dr. Sergio S. Cao. For the first time in the history of the UP Candlelight Ceremony, the UP Diliman Chancellor was in attendance for the College and for the 2009 graduating class.

Secondly, this year’s guest speaker was Mr. Kenneth Cobonpue, internationally acclaimed Filipino designer and faculty at UP Visayas. Mr. Cobonpue gave a most inspiring speech that resonated with practical and sound advice, based on his global accomplishments and experience, for aspiring young artists and designers.

During the Candlelight Ceremony, the UP College of Fine Arts honored Professor Emeritus Viriginia Flor Agbayani, now 86 years old, with the 2009 Alab ng Sining Award for her meritorius service, outstanding achievements and contributions to UP CFA and to the field of art education.

Best of all, the 2009 Candlelight Ceremony carried with it a meaningful significance as a special rite of passage for our graduating students who have accomplished so much in their young years academically.
