The UP College of Fine Arts admitted a total number of 159 new students and freshmen this year. We extend our warmest greetings and welcome to all of them, as well as to all returning students as we begin the new schoolyear. We wish everyone a most fruitful and inspiring experience of learning, and student life at CFA.
In acknowledging the real threats of the H1N1 virus that has taken its toll among local schools, UP has pushed back the opening of its classes from June 9 to June 16,2009.
CFA JUNE ACTIVITIES.
• Honoris Causa Conferment on Bencab. This month we are paying tribute to one of CFA’s National Artists: Mr. Benedicto “Bencab” Cabrera, as UP confers an honorary degree on him on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 10am at the Abelardo Hall, College of Music. We invite friends and alumni to join us for this special occasion.
The last honoris causa conferment on alumni from the UP College of Fine Arts was given in 1993 to National Artists Fernando Amorsolo and Guillermo Tolentino, who were both former deans of CFA.
INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADES & UPDATES AT CFA
• A Fresh Look for the CFA Auditorium. The auditorium of the UP College of Fine Arts has finally undergone necessary repairs and renovation through the kind support of the UP CFA Alumni Association, Mr. Ben Cabrera, Mr. Roger Pe, and friends of CFA.
The faculty and students of CFA are most appreciative of the support being given to the College by its alumni. We hope to receive more of the same from our alumni and friends in improving the infrastructure at CFA.
• Bathalaman 2. The Enriquez Hall Garden Area has been cleared early this year, and has undergone landscaping/sculptural work courtesy of award winning well known artist Mr. Jerry Araos, and the sponsorship of the Philippine Modelers Association through Prof. Mel Silvestre.
The area is now being utilized by students and classes for outdoor academic activities . It has also provided a more pleasant access for Enriquez Hall and the Ceramics Studio/Workshop.
The second phase of cleaning up Bathalaman 2 will now require stone paving for easier maintenance and upkeep. For this endeavor, we will require another round of fund-raising from our alumni.
• Enriquez Hall Classroom Repairs. We have just completed repairs for the classrooms at Enriquez Hall. Last year, the ceilings of these classrooms were badly damaged due to heavy water seepage through the roofs. The roofing has been repaired and waterproofed, and new insulation and fans have been installed in the classrooms.
• Enriquez Hall Rewiring. The whole Enriquez Hall wing was also rewired this summer to replace and upgrade the building’s electrical system. New circuit panels have been installed, so more power outlets can be available for student computers and AV equipment for classrooms.
• CALL for ALUMNI support .
There are many more pending repairs and classroom upgrades needed
at CFA. We appeal to all our alumni and CFA friends for their support and generosity to benefit our young students at CFA.
