2011 CFA Candlelight Ceremonies at the UP University Theater

June 5th, 2011

As this school year draws to a close, all our students and most specially the seniors of the 2011 graduating class gear up for the culminating activities of their academic life at the UP College of Fine Arts.

The final requirements for graduation will be demanding and rigorous.  This is what has made the Thesis Deliberations/Exhibit at our school one of the most anticipated academic culminating activities  within the University, and of late, within the local art community as well.

We have indeed seen audiences for our thesis exhibitions drawing tremendous attention over the last four years with the presence of leading art critics, curators, directors and officials of  museums and art institutions, gallery owners, collectors, and students from other colleges and universities visiting, reviewing or participating in these events.

The creative and conceptual range, depth and perceptive expressions of our young graduates continue to expand and provoke thought. They question, provoke thought and tell on the  individual and collective concerns, minds and daring/ socially committed  spirit of young student artists and designers.

2011 Candlelight Ceremony at the University Theater.

For many years, we would hold the traditional Candlelight Ceremony for our graduates, at the College itself, on home grounds , under the trees, or at the Bathalaman gardens.

This year however, the Candlelight Ceremony will be held at the University Theater, on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 4 pm. The new venue will comfortably accommodate the growing number of graduates, and the members of their families who would be witnessing their College graduation, one of the most memorable times of their lives.

Every effort will be taken to ensure the continuity and the solemnity of tradition and ceremony that will recognize the achievements of every graduating student.

2011 Commencement Speaker.

The CFA Candlelight Ceremony this year will have as its special guest speaker, Ms. Lisa Gokongwei Cheng, the founder and president of Summit Media Inc.  Ms. Gokongwei-Cheng began Summit Media which publishes more than twenty of the country’s leading magazines  and online publications.

Ms. Cheng has addressed many audiences on mass media and how it has interfaced with the creative world of design and artists.

Congratulations to all our brilliant 2011 graduates  for a job well done! We wish them every success and a most rewarding life ahead.
